Arsenal set to submit formal offer to sign Marseille forward Igor Paixao
Arsenal are preparing to submit a formal offer to sign Brazilian winger Igor Paixão from Marseille in the summer, as per Sports Boom.
Beginning his development in Brazil, Paixão rose through the ranks at Coritiba before enjoying productive loan spells with Londrina-PR, where his performances stood out and eventually earned him a move to Dutch side Feyenoord in the summer of 2022.
At De Kuip, he quickly caught the eye of both supporters and clubs across Europe, consistently showcasing his dribbling ability and attacking influence.
Across his time with the Dutch outfit, he made 129 appearances, scoring 39 goals and registering 29 assists, playing a key role in their Eredivisie, Dutch Cup, and Dutch Super Cup triumphs before securing a transfer to Marseille last summer.
Since arriving in France, the 25-year-old has continued to impress as one of Marseille’s standout wingers, recording 12 goals and seven assists across all competitions for Les Phocéens.
With the summer transfer window approaching, such consistent output is expected to attract strong interest from multiple clubs.
Having previously tried to sign him in the summer, Sports Boom reports that Arsenal have reignited their interest in Paixão and have earmarked the 25-year-old as a viable option for Mikel Arteta, who is looking to reinforce his attacking ranks.
Paixao to Arsenal
It appears the Premier League leaders want to swiftly complete the deal, as the report adds that the Gunners are preparing to submit a formal £30m offer, plus add-ons, to Feyenoord for Paixão’s potential transfer to the Emirates Stadium next summer.
However, Arsenal face stern competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool, according to the report, which claims the Merseyside giants view the Brazilian winger as a ‘perfect fit’ for Arne Slot’s attack, with the club’s scouts regularly watching him.
With a contract at the Stade Vélodrome that runs until 2030, Marseille will likely demand a fee significantly above Arsenal’s proposed £30m offer, especially considering his current form.
The winger will also consider the prospects of regular playing time, which he could likely get amid uncertainties surrounding Leandro Trossard’s future at the Emirates.
Should the Gunners complete his transfer, he would offer a more productive goalscoring output, an attacking threat with his dribbles, and a relentless work ethic off the ball.
But first, they need to fend off competition from Liverpool by submitting a more concrete offer to the French club in the summer.
