Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Leicester’s Jeremy Monga
Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Leicester City forward Jeremy Monga, as per TEAMtalk.
The youngster started his youth career at Coventry City before joining the Foxes’ academy at the age of eight. After coming through their youth system, he made his first team debut last campaign at the age of 15.
He attracted a lot of attention last summer but decided to stay at Leicester despite their relegation to play regularly and develop his career.
This season, the 16-year-old has featured in 28 matches across all competitions, making three goal contributions. However, with the Foxes in danger of relegation to League One, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal have registered their interest in Monga and are preparing to make a formal approach to secure his service ahead of next season.
However, the Gunners will have to overcome fierce competition to finalise the operation, as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Brentford are all plotting a swoop for him as well.
Apart from the Premier League clubs, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund have been monitoring his development closely before making a potential move.
Monga to Arsenal
The Englishman can’t sign a professional contract until he turns 17, and Arsenal can secure his services for only minimal compensation under current regulations. However, Leicester haven’t given up hope of keeping hold of him, as they plan to offer him a new deal as soon as he turns 17 in July.
Monga is a right-footed left-winger by trait but is also efficient on the opposite side. With Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard struggling to showcase consistency, Arsenal could do with reinforcing the left flank.
However, considering Arsenal have established themselves as title contenders under Mikel Arteta’s guidance, they need experienced players to achieve their lofty ambitions.
So, even if Arsenal decide to sign Monga this summer, they need to buy a new proven wide forward option this summer. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to sign Monga.
