Arsenal are reportedly showing ‘serious interest’ in signing Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane, as per TEAMtalk.
After being impressed by the 19-year-old’s performances for Albacete in La Liga 2, the German side decided to purchase him last summer.
The youngster has mainly played as a rotational option this season, scoring seven goals and registering five assists in 18 starts across all competitions.
After showing glimpses of his qualities in the Bundesliga, Kofane has secured his place in the Cameroonian national team. He even helped his country reach the AFCON quarter-final.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are showing ‘serious interest’ in signing the African after being impressed by his performances this season and could make a concrete approach this summer.
However, the Gunners will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Chelsea, Newcastle United, Everton, Brentford, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are also interested in him.
Moreover, Liverpool and Manchester City are in this race as well, and they have already made contact to learn about the details of finalising the operation.
Kofane to Arsenal
Having recently joined Leverkusen, Kofane, valued at around £35m by Transfermarkt, still has a contract until 2029. So, the German side aren’t in any rush to sell him, and Arsenal will have to launch a lucrative proposal to seal the deal.
Kofane is a 6ft 2in tall right-footed centre-forward. He is quick, strong, good in the air, efficient in holding up the play, and works hard without possession.
He is a talented player and possesses high potential. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
Mikel Arteta currently has Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz as striker options. However, Jesus has been linked with a move away, having struggled with fitness problems in recent years. Moreover, he has entered the final 18 months of his current contract.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in signing Kofane during the offseason.
Meanwhile, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-final first leg in midweek, Arsenal are set to face AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend.
