Arsenal now eyeing move for Sao Paulo star Lucca Marques
Arsenal are closely monitoring highly rated Sao Paulo left winger Lucca Marques ahead of a possible swoop to the Emirates Stadium next summer, according to Sports Witness.
Arsenal remain active in the market, targeting young talents for their Under-21s as well as players who can push towards the first team — and Marques’ rapid rise in Brazil places him firmly in the latter category.
The youngster played a decisive role in securing São Paulo’s qualification to the Copa Libertadores, scoring the equaliser against Libertad. That goal also saw the 18-year-old make history as the youngest scorer in the competition, having scored at just 17, with interest in him now growing.
Arsenal’s strong Brazilian connection, largely shaped by former sporting director Edu Gaspar, has helped attract players such as Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Gabriel Magalhães.
As a result, the North London side has become an appealing destination for emerging talent, particularly from Brazil, and have now set their sights on Marques as another exciting addition to their squad.
This is according to Sports Witness, which claims that the Premier League leaders are keeping tabs on Marques ahead of a potential summer transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
The report adds that the Gunners are closely monitoring the 18-year-old left winger and could submit a formal offer to São Paulo in the summer to seal his signature.
Although Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund also have Marques on their radar, Arsenal have made the most concrete efforts towards signing the Brazilian U20 international, according to the report.
Prospect
Following Andrea Berta’s arrival as sporting director, Arsenal have not only focused on improving the senior squad but have also stepped up their youth recruitment drive, already bringing several exciting prospects to the academy.
Recent additions include Colombian twins Edwin Quintero and Holger Quintero, alongside Jaden Dixon and Evan Mooney, all secured before the winter transfer window closed.
Mikel Arteta has already handed opportunities to some of Hale End’s standout academy talents this season, with Marli Solomon the latest to feature in the 3–0 victory over Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.
Marquez would be another key addition to Arsenal’s growing list of exciting talents as they continue to build for the future.
With interest in the Brazilian expected to grow in the summer, the Gunners will hope to capitalise on their relationship with São Paulo to sign the left-winger on a favourable fee, having previously done business with them to sign Marquinhos in the summer of 2022.
