Arsenal open talks to sign Como midfielder Nico Paz

Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign Como midfielder Nico Paz, as per Caught Offside.

The 21-year-old started his youth career at CD San Juan before spending a couple of years at Tenerife. He moved to Real Madrid’s famous La Fabrica academy at the age of eleven.

After progressing through the Spanish giants’ youth system, the Argentinian made his first-team debut in 2023. However, he struggled to find regular game time, so he joined Como permanently a couple of years ago.

Upon moving to Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, Paz has flourished in his career under Cesc Fabregas. After making 14 goal contributions across all competitions last term and helping his side stay in the Italian top flight, he has taken his game to another level this season.

In 33 appearances in all tournaments, the South American has netted 11 goals and registered six assists. Moreover, he has been guiding Como to mount a top-four charge, sitting fourth in the league with 57 points from 30 matches.

Having proven his worth in club football, Paz has secured his place in the Argentina national team. He even helped his country beat Mauritania 2-1 by putting his name on the scoresheet last weekend.

Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have registered their interest in Paz after being impressed by his recent eye-catching performances. They have even made contact to learn about the details of signing him.

However, Chelsea and Manchester City are also plotting a swoop, with the Blues holding a long-term interest in the youngster. They have also held talks to enquire about a potential swoop.

Paz to Arsenal

But the report state that Paz is prioritising a return to Real Madrid, and as a result, he has rejected the opportunity to play in the Premier League. Los Blancos have a buyback clause worth just around €9m, even though his market value is likely to reach £87m very soon.

Real Madrid believe Paz possesses the necessary qualities to become the ‘next superstar’ and are ready to re-sign him. So, Arsenal will have to put their best efforts into finalising the operation if they eventually make a concrete approach.

With Martin Odegaard struggling with fitness problems this season, Arsenal could do with signing a new creative midfielder during the offseason.

Paz, standing at 6ft 1in tall, is a technically gifted left-footed No.10. So, he would have been a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal had they managed to seal the deal.
