Arsenal hold talks to sign Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga
Arsenal have reportedly held talks to sign Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, as per Caught Offside.
Following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final last weekend, the Gunners’ dream of winning the unthinkable quadruple has been shattered.
Still, they could win the treble this season, something only two Manchester clubs from England have achieved so far. Arsenal are currently at the top of the Premier League table with a nine-point lead over second-placed Manchester City, having played an extra game.
On the other hand, the North London club have reached the quarter-final of the FA Cup and the Champions League and are set to face Southampton and Sporting CP, respectively, next month.
Meanwhile, it appears Mikel Arteta’s side have been using the international break to explore options for adding more firepower to their squad this summer, aiming to carry their momentum into next season.
Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are planning to upgrade the midfield department and have identified Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali as a key target.
However, they have been offered the chance to sign Camavinga, who could leave Los Blancos for a fee of around £43m this summer, although his existing deal is set to run until 2029.
Camavinga to Arsenal
Arsenal are only planning to make a move for Camavinga if they fail to sign the primary options and are interested in signing him on a temporary loan deal.
The Gunners previously signed Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid, while they opted to sign the Norwegian permanently a few years ago.
However, the report state that purchasing Camavinga won’t be straightforward as Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are all in this race.
The Merseyside club are even in pole position, having already held formal talks with the player’s representatives twice. Still, it is not guaranteed that Camavinga will move to Anfield this summer.
Camavinga is a highly talented, versatile player, but has struggled with fitness problems in recent years. As a result, his development has been hampered.
Still, he is very young and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually secure his service during the offseason.
