Arsenal step up efforts to sign AS Roma’s Wesley França

By on March 24, 2026

Arsenal have reportedly accelerated their efforts to sign AS Roma defender Wesley França, as per a recent report.

After being impressed by the 22-year-old’s performances for Brazilian side Flamengo, the Giallorossi decided to secure his services last summer.

The youngster has taken no time to settle into his new surroundings, making five goal contributions and keeping eight clean sheets in 35 appearances across all competitions this season.

Moreover, the Brazilian has been helping his side to mount a top-four charge in Serie A, sitting sixth in the table with 54 points from 30 matches. They are currently three points behind fourth-placed Como.

Having proven his worth in club football, Wesley has secured his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil national team.

Now, as per a recent report (via ESPN), after being attracted by the South American’s displays at Stadio Olimpico, Arsenal have registered their interest in him and have already stepped up efforts to seal the deal.

Mikel Arteta’s side are planning to refresh the right-back position as they are prepared to cash-in on Ben White due to his persistent fitness problems in recent years.

Wesley to Arsenal

Having recently moved to the Italian capital, the defender, valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt, still has a contract until 2030. So, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side aren’t in any rush to sell him and are likely to demand a big fee if they are forced to let him leave.

The report state that apart from the Roma star, Arsenal have also shortlisted Valentino Livramento, Nnamdi Collins, and Vanderson as potential options to strengthen the right side of the defence.

Wesley is a versatile player, as he is a right-back by trait but also efficient in the RWB position. Furthermore, he can provide cover on the opposite side if needed.

He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to chip in with some important goals, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.

Wesley is a talented player and isn’t a finished article yet. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
