Arsenal open talks to sign Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba

By on March 16, 2026

Arsenal have reportedly held talks to sign RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

After finishing second in the last three consecutive Premier League campaigns, the Gunners are edging closer towards overcoming their title drought this season.

Following Manchester City’s back-to-back draws against Nottingham Forest and West Ham United, Mikel Arteta’s side have established a nine-point lead at the top of the league, having played an extra game.

Arsenal might end the season with more success as they have reached the final of the Carabao Cup and the quarter-final of the FA Cup. Moreover, they have an opportunity to win the Champions League as well. The Emirates club have the squad depth to win the unthinkable quadruple this season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have already started exploring options to strengthen the squad further this summer and continue the momentum next campaign.

Fichajes state that despite already having Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori, and Piero Hincapié, Arsenal are considering signing a new left-footed centre-back and have identified Lukeba as a serious option.

The North London club have already held initial talks over this deal, and Leipzig have slapped a £52m price tag on his head, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.

Lukeba to Arsenal

Arteta likes having versatile players, and Lukeba is comfortable playing multiple positions. Like Hincapié and Calafiori, the Frenchman is a left-footed centre-back by trait but is also efficient in the left-back position.

He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, reads the game well, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Lukeba is a talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, following a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Everton, Arsenal are set to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last-16 second leg in midweek before taking on Man City in the Carabao Cup final next weekend.
