Arsenal battling with Man Utd & Liverpool to sign Murillo
Arsenal are reportedly battling with Manchester United and Liverpool over a deal to sign Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners currently have Gabriel Magalhaes as the first-choice option to deploy in the LCB position. Moreover, Piero Hincapié and Riccardo Calafiori can provide cover in this position if needed, although Mikel Arteta has been using the duo as left-back.
However, Calafiori has struggled with fitness problems since joining from Bologna. So, it appears the North London club have started exploring options to sign a new centre-back to support Gabriel.
Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have identified Murillo as a serious option and have been monitoring his development ‘extensively’ in recent times before making a potential swoop.
Having proven his worth at the City Ground in recent years, Murillo is ready to leave to take a new challenge in his career. The Tricky Trees have no intention of letting him leave, as they consider him one of the pillars of their long-term project.
However, Forest might be open to changing their stance should they receive a formal proposal worth at least £60m, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
The report state that Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in Murillo as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Man Utd, and Liverpool are also in this race and have been keeping a close eye on his performances.
Murillo to Arsenal
Liverpool even attempted to buy him in the last summer transfer window to strengthen the defence, but Forest refused to let him leave.
Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Saudi Arabian clubs are also interested in the Brazilian, but the player prefers to stay in the Premier League and Chelsea are currently in pole position in this race.
Murillo is a left-footed centre-back and is also efficient in providing cover in the left-back position if needed. He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top, so he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to add depth to their defence should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in the summer window.
