Arsenal in regular talks to sign Atletico’s Julian Alvarez

By on February 10, 2026

Arsenal have reportedly been holding regular talks to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per TEAMtalk.

The Gunners decided to reinforce the centre-forward position by purchasing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer. However, he initially took time to settle into his new surroundings.

In recent weeks, the Swedish international has started showcasing his productivity, scoring four goals and registering an assist in the last four appearances across all competitions.

He has made 15 goal contributions in all tournaments thus far this season and has been guiding his side to challenge on all fronts.

Apart from Gyokeres, Arsenal currently have Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as the striker options. However, both have struggled with fitness problems in recent years, with the Brazilian linked with a move away.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are contemplating purchasing a new top-class striker and have been maintaining regular contact to sign Alvarez.

The Argentinian international has become frustrated at Atletico Madrid, so he is ready to leave, and Los Rojiblancos have slapped a £100m price tag on his head.

However, the report state that Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea are also in this race and the player’s representatives have been in talks with those clubs as well.

The South American prefers to join Barcelona, but they have struggled with financial difficulties in recent years. Moreover, they have been busy with the presidential election, which is next month. The forward is prepared to move back to England if the Blaugrana eventually fail to secure his services.

Arsenal have been doing due diligence on the World Cup winner and have received ‘positive’ reports.

Alvarez previously displayed his qualities in the Premier League during his time with Manchester City, winning two league titles. Moreover, he helped the Citizens win the Champions League.

He has continued to showcase his productivity in the Spanish capital in recent years, scoring 11 goals and registering five assists across all competitions thus far this season.

Therefore, the Atletico Madrid star would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service in the upcoming summer transfer window.
