Arsenal ‘mapping out’ a possible move for Kees Smit

By on February 4, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly ‘mapping out’ a possible summer move for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit, as per Caught Offside.

After rising through the Dutch club’s youth system, the 20-year-old made his first team debut in 2024 before establishing himself as a key starter this campaign.

The youngster has been displaying impressive performances, scoring three goals and registering five assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this term.

Moreover, Smit has been helping his team to push for a European place finish in the Eredivisie, sitting sixth in the table with 32 points from 21 matches.

Now, Caught Offside claim that Smit’s recent eye-catching performances haven’t gone unnoticed as he has been attracting a lot of attention.

Arsenal have expressed their interest in him and have already started laying the groundwork to finalise the operation in the summer. They even explored the possibility of signing him in the recently concluded winter window.

Apart from the Gunners, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid are also in this race. However, Mikel Arteta’s side and the Merseyside club are currently ahead of Los Blancos in this race, with the player increasingly likely to move to England.

Smit to Arsenal

With Smit’s existing deal set to run until 2028, AZ Alkmaar are in a strong position to demand a fee to sell him this year and have slapped a £52m price tag on his head. However, the price could climb up to £65m amid growing interest.

The youngster is a technically gifted player and has been displaying his qualities in a double midfield pivot role. Furthermore, he can play in the box-to-box and creative midfield positions.

Smit can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.

He has similarities to Frenkie de Jong and possesses the potential to reach the very top. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in the upcoming summer transfer window.
