Arsenal keen on signing Villarreal star Alberto Moleiro
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Villarreal star Alberto Moleiro, as per Caught Offside.
Following Alejandro Baena’s move to Atletico Madrid, the Yellow Submarine decided to sign the 22-year-old last summer, having been impressed by his performances for Las Palmas.
The youngster has displayed glimpses of his qualities thus far this season, making 11 goal contributions in 20 appearances in La Liga. Moreover, he has been guiding his side to mount a top-four charge, sitting fourth in the table with 41 points from 20 matches.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are planning to reinforce the left side of the attack following Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard’s inconsistent performances this season.
The Gunners have identified Moleiro as a ‘top target’ and have been monitoring his development. They hold a long-term interest in the Spaniard and could finally opt to secure his service this year.
Having moved to Estadio de la Cerámica last summer, Moleiro, valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt, still has a contract until 2030. So, the Spanish side are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in on him this year.
Moleiro is a technically gifted right-footed left-winger by trait, but is also comfortable in the creative midfield position. He isn’t the quickest, but he is intelligent and has been dubbed the new Pedri.
Moleiro to Arsenal
Although Martinelli has continued to showcase his productivity in cup competitions, he has netted only once in the Premier League thus far this term. On the other hand, Trossard has scored only one goal in the last 11 appearances across all competitions.
Moreover, the Belgian is set to turn 32 later this year, and his existing deal is set to expire at the end of next season. So, Arsenal could do with purchasing a new left-winger.
Moleiro is a talented player and possesses high potential. However, there is a question mark whether he possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in a high-intensity league like the Premier League.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this year.
