Arsenal open talks to sign Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco

By on January 21, 2026

Arsenal have reportedly opened talks to sign Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The Gunners decided to reinforce the left side of the backline by signing Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié in the last two consecutive summer windows. Both players are versatile as they are comfortable playing in the centre-back position as well as left-back.

As a result, Mikel Arteta currently has a deep LB department, with Myles Lewis-Skelly also an option. The youngster showed glimpses of his high potential last term but has found it difficult to play regularly thus far this season.

On the other hand, Calafiori has struggled with fitness problems since the start of last season. After commencing only 16 Premier League matches last term, he has started 11 league games thus far this season.

He has even been out due to a muscular problem over the last few weeks, while Hincapié has also had fitness problems. So, it appears the North London club are planning to add further depth to the left-back position.

Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal are looking to upgrade the squad to challenge on all fronts and have identified Dimarco as an ‘ideal’ option to strengthen the left-back position.

The Gunners have already held initial talks over this deal, and Dimarco is open to moving to the Emirates Stadium if he eventually leaves Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.

Dimarco to Arsenal

Speculation surrounding the Italian’s future has started emerging as his existing deal is set to expire at the end of next season, and the Nerazzurri are ready to hand him a fresh term until 2029 with a salary hike.

The report state that Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in the Inter Milan star, valued at around £43m, as Manchester United are also considering making a potential swoop.

Dimarco has flourished in his career as a LWB for club and country; however, Arteta uses a back four. The 28-year-old is excellent going forward and can deliver excellent crosses from wide areas.

However, he lacks potency in defensive contributions, so there is a question mark whether he would be the right option to play in Arteta’s system.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the North London club will eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
