Arsenal receive huge boost to sign Anthony Gordon

By on January 20, 2026

Arsenal have received a huge boost in the pursuit of Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, as per Football Insider.

Although Gabriel Martinelli has showcased his productivity in the cup competitions, he has struggled in the Premier League thus far this season, scoring a solitary goal in 17 league appearances.

As a result, Leandro Trossard has been the first-choice left-wing option. However, he is set to turn 32 later this year and has entered the final 18 months of his current contract.

New summer signing Eberechi Eze can provide cover on the left flank, but Arteta has predominantly used him as a creative midfielder. So, it has recently been reported that Arsenal are considering upgrading the left flank this year and have identified Gordon as a serious option.

Now, on Football Insider, transfer expert Mike Brown says that Newcastle are prepared to cash-in on Gordon if they receive a big proposal this year following his disappointing performances thus far this season.

The Magpies are fearful that if the player continues to display below-average performances, his price would drop, and they don’t want that to happen.

However, purchasing the Englishman won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Liverpool are also holding a long-term interest in the 24-year-old.

Gordon to Arsenal

Gordon is a left-winger by trait and has made 12 goal contributions across all competitions thus far this season. However, six of his goals have come from the penalty spot.

Gordon is an energetic player and is highly talented. He possesses the potential to reach the top and has plenty of time on his side to reach his full potential.

However, considering Newcastle would demand a big fee to sell him, it might not be the right decision for Arsenal to sign him if he continues to struggle between now and the end of this season.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, following a disappointing draw against Nottingham Forest last weekend, Arsenal will face Inter Milan in the Champions League tonight.
