Arsenal have received a boost in the pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler, as per a recent Spanish report.

After moving to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu from Fenerbahçehe in 2023, the 20-year-old initially struggled with fitness problems, and after recovering from his issue, he struggled to play regularly under former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

In his debut campaign, he started only five matches across all competitions. Although his situation improved somewhat last term, he mainly played as a rotational option.

Following Xabi Alonso’s arrival as the new manager at the end of last season, Guler became a key player, making 12 goal contributions across all competitions this term.

However, Defensa Central report that Guler is fearful he might lose his spot in the first XI under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa, and he doesn’t want that to happen.

The Turkish international is keen on playing regularly and developing his career. So, if he finds himself on the periphery, he is open to leaving the Spanish capital, although his primary target is to stay.

Arsenal are ‘considering’ making a move to sign Guler next summer, and this development is a huge boost for the Gunners to secure his services.

Guler to Arsenal

The youngster is valued at around £78m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2029. Therefore, Los Blancos are in a strong position to demand a huge fee if they are forced to cash-in on the creative midfielder.

Arsenal already have Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, and Ethan Nwaneri as options for the No.10 position, with Mikel Arteta’s side spending big money to sign Eze last summer.

The former Crystal Palace star enjoyed a stellar start at the Emirates Stadium, scoring a hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. However, since Odegaard’s return from his injury, the Englishman has found himself on the periphery in recent matches.

On the other hand, Nwaneri is still very young and needs time to develop his career. Therefore, perhaps, Arsenal are looking to upgrade the No.10 position further.

Guler is one of the best young creative midfielders in the world and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to purchase him next summer.
