Arsenal ‘crazy’ about signing Milan’s Davide Bartesaghi
Arsenal are reportedly ‘crazy’ about signing AC Milan star Davide Bartesaghi, as per Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Mikel Arteta doesn’t like using out-and-out fullbacks; instead, he prefers to deploy technically gifted, versatile centre-backs in the wide positions.
In recent years, the Gunners have bought Jurrien Timber, Ben White, and Riccardo Calafiori, all of whom were centre-backs at their previous clubs but now play as full-backs at the Emirates Stadium.
Currently, the North London club are well-stocked in the backline and have two players for every position. However, Gabriel Magalhaes, White, and Cristhian Mosquera have been out due to their respective injury problems.
As a result, Timber, William Saliba, and Piero Hincapié have been taking enormous workloads in recent weeks. So, it appears Arteta is planning to add further depth at the back in January to continue the title march in the second half of this season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that, having been impressed by Bartesaghi’s recent eye-catching performances for Milan, Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him.
They are currently ‘crazy’ about him; however, purchasing the 19-year-old won’t be straightforward for the North London club as he still has a contract until 2030. Therefore, the Rossoneri aren’t in any rush to sell him next year.
Bartesaghi to Arsenal
The youngster is a left-footed 6ft 4in tall defender. Like Hincapié and Calafiori, Bartesaghi is a centre-back by trait but is also comfortable in the left-back position. He has been playing as a LWB under Massimiliano Allegri this season, ahead of new summer signing Pervis Estupinan.
In 13 appearances across all competitions, Bartesaghi has made three goal contributions thus far this season and has helped his side keep five clean sheets.
Moreover, he has been helping his side mount a Serie A title charge. Milan are currently second in the table with one point less than league leader, Inter Milan.
Bartesaghi is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. Moreover, he has the physicality to flourish in the Premier League as he is quick, strong, and good in the air.
So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service in January or next summer.
