Arsenal in ‘direct contact’ to sign Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz
Arsenal have reportedly been in ‘direct contact’ to sign Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz, as per Caught Offside.
Despite purchasing Noni Madueke last summer, it was reported that the Gunners were willing to purchase a new left winger and a creative midfielder.
Although they opted to reinforce the No.10 position by purchasing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, they didn’t sign a specialist left-winger before the deadline.
Arsenal currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard as options to deploy on the left flank. However, the Brazilian has struggled to showcase his best in the Premier League thus far this season, even though he has made six goal contributions in five Champions League matches.
On the other hand, Trossard has turned 31 and has entered the final 18 months of his current contract. So, it appears Mikel Arteta’s side are exploring the possibility of signing a new young left-winger.
Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have registered their interest in Yildiz and have been in ‘direct contact’ with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Yildiz has been locked in talks with Juventus over a fresh term, but both parties have been struggling to find an agreement, as the Bianconeri don’t want to match the player’s €6m-a-year salary demand. If the negotiations ultimately fall through, Arsenal are ‘prepared to move quickly’ to sign him.
Yildiz to Arsenal
The report claim that purchasing the forward won’t be easy for Arsenal as Chelsea are in this race as well and they have a good relationship with Mendes.
The Blues even made a formal proposal worth around £61m to sign him last summer. However, Yildiz might be tempted to join Arsenal’s project to continue his development under Arteta.
Yildiz is valued at around £66m by Transfermarkt and still has three and a half years left in his current contract. So, Juventus aren’t in any rush to sell him next year.
Yildiz is a left-sided forward by trait but is also comfortable in the No.10 role. In 21 appearances across all competitions, he has netted six goals and registered seven assists thus far this season.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to sign him in January or next summer.
