Arsenal interested in signing Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy, as per TEAMtalk.
The Gunners decided to reinforce the No.9 position by purchasing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer. The 27-year-old was one of the most in-form forwards in Europe over the last two seasons, so it came as no surprise that Mikel Arteta’s side decided to buy him.
However, the Swedish international has taken time to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality, netting only six goals in 15 appearances across all competitions.
On the other hand, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus remain sidelined due to their respective injury problems. As a result, Arteta has been forced to use Mikel Merino in the centre-forward position amid Gyokeres’ recent injury absence.
However, he returned to action against Chelsea on Sunday. Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are interested in signing a new striker to add depth in the frontline.
The Gunners have earmarked Guirassy as a serious option, having been impressed by his eye-catching performances in recent campaigns. At the age of 29, the forward is keen on leaving Dortmund to take the next step in his career, and a January move hasn’t been ruled out.
Guirassy to Arsenal
Although the African still has two and a half years left in his current contract, he has a £44m release clause, which can be triggered by elite clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
The report say that Man Utd are also interested in Guirassy as Joshua Zirkzee has found it difficult to find his feet in the Premier League, while Benjamin Sesko is still very young and needs time to develop.
Guirassy scored 34 goals and registered six assists across all competitions last term before netting four goals in five appearances in the Club World Cup last summer.
This season, the Dortmund star has continued to showcase his productivity, scoring nine goals and registering three assists in 18 appearances thus far.
Therefore, he might be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
