Former midfielder turned pundit Jamie O’Hara has heaped praise on Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly.

After graduating from Hale End Academy, the 19-year-old made his first-team debut last year. The Gunners decided to reinforce the left-back position by purchasing Riccardo Calafiori ahead of the last campaign, but he initially struggled with fitness problems.

On the other hand, with Oleksandr Zinchenko falling in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order, the youngster received the opportunity to play regularly last campaign.

However, Calafiori has been fit and available thus far this season, so he has secured his place in Arteta’s starting line-up, while Lewis-Skelly has been featuring in the cup competitions regularly.

After being impressed by Lewis-Skelly, Thomas Tuchel gave him his England debut earlier this year. Since then, he has been part of the Three Lions squad until the October international break. Tuchel dropped him for England’s fixtures this month, saying he needs to play regularly to regain his spot.

Now, on Sky Sports(via Metro), O’Hara says that Lewis-Skelly is a ‘brilliant footballer’ and has the potential to become a future star, so he needs to play regularly.

Moreover, the pundit claims that although the 19-year-old has struggled to break into Arteta’s starting line-up this season, he would be a guaranteed starter for Liverpool as he is better than Andy Robertson and Milos Kerkez.

Pundit lauds Lewis-Skelly

O’Hara said:

“Lewis-Skelly needs to be playing. I think he is a brilliant footballer. As a future star, he is going to be a [regular] England international. He’s a young kid who had a quick rise to fame last season [but] he’s a hugely talented footballer.”

Lewis-Skelly, valued at around £40m by Transfermarkt, is certainly a highly talented player, but showed signs of inexperience in the Premier League at times last term, picking up two red cards. Therefore, his game time needs to be managed to help him reach his full potential.

Arteta previously developed talents such as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Ødegaard. So, he knows what is right for Lewis-Skelly to reach the top.

Apart from the 19-year-old, Arteta also has top-class young talents such as Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman at his disposal. Therefore, it is apparent that Hale End Academy have been doing excellent work in recent years.
