Arsenal make contact to sign Como star Nico Paz
Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign Como midfielder Nico Paz, as per Caught Offside.
After winning 10 consecutive matches across all competitions, keeping clean sheets in nine of those matches, the Gunners only managed to come away with a draw against Sunderland in the Premier League last weekend.
By taking advantage of this result, Manchester City have closed the gap on the North London club to just four points after thrashing Liverpool 3-0 on Sunday.
Following this weekend’s matches, it appears Pep Guardiola’s side are Arsenal’s biggest challenger for the title this season. Reigning champions Liverpool have continued to struggle, languishing in mid-table after losing five of their last six league matches.
Meanwhile, despite spending big money in the last transfer window, Mikel Arteta’s side are planning to invest more money next year. Caught Offside claim that Paz has placed himself on the Spanish boss’s radar following his recent eye-catching displays.
The Argentinian joined Como from Real Madrid last year, and Los Blancos have a buyback option. Moreover, they hold a 50% sell-on clause if Como sell him to any other club, such as Arsenal.
So, it would be complicated for Arteta’s side to seal the deal with the player valued at around £88m, and he still has three years left on his current contract with Como.
Paz to Arsenal
The North London club have already made contact with the player to persuade him to join. The report claim that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also in this race, while Inter Milan are also keen on him and are prepared to spend around £51m to finalise the operation.
Following Como’s promotion to Serie A, Paz helped them survive relegation last term and has been guiding Cesc Fábregas’ side in their push for a European place this season.
They are currently seventh in the table and have already defeated Juventus and Lazio. On the other hand, Paz has helped Como come away with a draw against Napoli.
The 21-year-old is a technically gifted player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in Arteta’s system. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service next year.
