Arsenal plot swoop to sign Valencia star Javi Guerra
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 22-year-old started his youth career with Villarreal before joining Los Ches back in 2019. He made his first team debut a couple of years ago before establishing himself as a key player in recent seasons.
In 12 appearances across all competitions, the Spaniard has made two assists thus far this campaign. Now, Fichajes state that the youngster wants to continue developing his career but feels Valencia might not be an ideal place, as they have been struggling in recent years.
Los Ches are currently languishing in the relegation zone with nine points from 11 games, failing to win the last six league matches. So, although he signed a new deal until 2029 recently, Guerra is considering leaving next year.
Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him and have been monitoring his development before making a potential swoop. However, Atletico Madrid are also in this race, so the Gunners will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal.
Guerra has a £88m release clause in his current contract, but Valencia are prepared to cash-in on him for a fee of at least £22m to help him take the next step in his career.
Guerra to Arsenal
Arsenal recently signed Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia in a bargain deal, and early signs suggest that he has the potential to become a great asset for the North London club. So, it appears Mikel Arteta’s side are planning something similar with Guerra.
The 22-year-old is a 6ft 2in dynamic midfielder. He is technically sound and likes to be deployed in the double midfield pivot role, but is also comfortable in the box-to-box position.
Arsenal recently bolstered the midfield department by signing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard last summer. However, the Dane has entered his 30s and has signed a short-term contract. Therefore, perhaps, Arsenal have already started exploring options to replace the former Brentford captain.
Guerra is a talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. So, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they eventually manage to purchase him in January or next summer.
