Arsenal have received a huge boost in the pursuit of AC Milan forward Rafael Leao, as per TEAMtalk.
It was widely suggested during the summer transfer window that the Gunners were keen on purchasing a new left-sided forward. Rodrygo Goes, Anthony Gordon, and Leao were linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, the North London club eventually signed Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace. Initially, it was thought that he was the option that they had bought to reinforce the left flank, but he has been featuring as a creative midfielder amid Martin Odegaard’s injury absence.
Even when the Norwegian was fit, Arteta used him and Eze in a midfield three against West Ham United. So, it appears the Englishman has been purchased as an option to add depth in the No.10 position.
Meaning, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard remain the primary options to deploy on the left. Noni Madueke can provide cover in this position if needed, although he is a right winger by trait. But he has been out injured at the moment.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are interested in upgrading the left flank in January and have earmarked Leao as an ‘ideal’ option. So, they could make a concrete approach to secure his service.
Since joining Milan from LOSC Lille, Leao has established himself as a talismanic figure. So, the Rossoneri have no intention of letting him leave with his release clause set at around £132m.
Leao to Arsenal
However, he is prepared to leave San Siro Stadium to take a new challenge in his career and is ‘very keen’ on moving to the Premier League. So, this is a huge boost for the Gunners to sign the Portuguese.
The report say that Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in Leao as Manchester City, Chelsea, and Manchester United are also considering making a move.
The 26-year-old has helped his side win a Scudetto title and a Supercoppa Italiana trophy over the years. He has enjoyed a bright start this season, scoring four goals in six appearances across all competitions.
Leao is a top-class player and possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service next year.
