Former Arsenal star Anders Limpar has told Mikel Arteta how he should use Eberechi Eze to bring the best out of the Englishman.

Having been impressed by his performances for Crystal Palace over the last few seasons, the Gunners bought the 27-year-old by paying a big fee this summer.

The Englishman usually played as a left-sided CAM in Oliver Glasner’s 3-4-2-1 system, and also played in the LW position for the England national team.

He made his debut for his new club away against Liverpool as a substitute and played on the left flank. After that, he started two consecutive matches against Nottingham Forest and Athletic Club in the left-wing position.

However, amid Martin Odegaard’s injury absence, Eze has been featuring as a creative midfielder in recent weeks, scoring a solitary goal and registering two assists in 10 appearances across all competitions.

Now, during a recent interview (via Metro), Limper says that Eze hasn’t been able to showcase even 10% of his best for Arsenal, and plenty more is yet to come from him.

The forward needs time to settle into his new surroundings; however, Arteta shouldn’t use him on the left flank. Instead, Eze should be given the free role, similar to how Manchester City use Phil Foden, to bring the best out of him.

Moreover, the former midfielder states that Eze is ‘going to explode’ when he manages to score a few goals.

Limper said:

“We haven’t seen even 10 per cent of Ebere Eze’s best in an Arsenal shirt yet. When I look at Eze, he floats all over the pitch like [Bukayo] Saka. For Eze to be at his best for Arsenal, he should never have a fixed position. He has to go where the space is like Phil Foden. He can’t just be stuck on the left side.

“He is one of the players who can excel in that free role. We haven’t seen nearly enough from him and what he can do for the club but he is a favourite player of mine. Just give him a few goals and I think he’s going to explode for Arsenal.”

Arteta initially showed reluctance to deploy Eze in the No.10 position amid Odegaard’s absence, and used a midfield three of Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, and Mikel Merino.

So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Eze gets the opportunity to play in his preferred creative midfield role following Odegaard’s return.

Meanwhile, following Arsenal’s impressive victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League midweek, Arsenal will face off against Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend.
