Arsenal star Martin Odegaard is set to remain sidelined for several weeks, having sustained a knee problem against West Ham United just before the international break.

Since moving to the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid a few years ago, the Norwegian has established himself as an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI and is also the club captain.

He has even helped the North London club become a Premier League title contender. However, the midfielder has had an injury-ridden start to this season.

Initially, he sustained a shoulder issue against Leeds United in the second Premier League game and returned in a very short time. But he sustained another shoulder problem vs Nottingham Forest and was sidelined for a couple of weeks.

After returning, Odegaard picked up a knee injury against West Ham earlier this month, and Arsenal clarified that his problem is medial collateral ligament damage. However, the club didn’t reveal how long he might remain sidelined.

Now, BBC Sport report that after missing out on the October international break, Odegaard isn’t expected to be available until the end of the November international break. Meaning, he is set to remain sidelined for around five weeks due to this problem.

Odegaard injury blow

Usually, Odegaard’s injury is a huge blow for Arsenal; however, following Eberechi Eze’s arrival this summer, the North Londoners shouldn’t feel worried about the former Real Madrid star’s absence.

Moreover, Ethan Nwaneri is also capable of providing cover in the creative midfield position in certain matches.

Arsenal have already suffered numerous injury problems this season, with Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Noni Madueke currently out with their respective problems alongside Odegaard. Furthermore, Ben White, Christian Norgaard, William Saliba and Bukayo Saka have had injury problems, but they have returned to action quickly.

New summer signing, Piero Hincapié, has also had an injury problem and has been out over the last few weeks. But it is expected that he should return to action quickly.

Despite all these adversities, Arsenal have enjoyed a stellar start to this season, sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 16 points from seven games. Liverpool are second in the table with one point less.
