Arsenal to step up efforts to sign Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume
Arsenal are reportedly planning to accelerate their efforts to sign Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners decided to overhaul the engine room by purchasing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard this summer after letting Thomas Partey and Jorginho leave for free.
Zubimendi has already established himself as an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI, scoring two goals across all competitions, while the Dane’s role is to play as a second-fiddle option.
Arsenal have even enjoyed a stellar start to this season, sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 16 points from seven games. Moreover, they have already won both of their Champions League matches.
Still, Fichajes state that Arsenal are looking to add depth to the midfield department and have identified Agoume as a serious option. They have even started accelerating their efforts to seal the deal in the upcoming January transfer window.
The 23-year-old has a £35m release clause in his current contract, which will run until 2028, but the Andalusian side are open to letting him leave for less than the release clause fee.
Agoume to Arsenal
The report say that purchasing the Frenchman won’t be straightforward for the North London club as other Premier League clubs are also in this race, though the report didn’t mention the exact names of those teams.
Agoume initially moved to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan from Inter Milan on a loan deal at the beginning of last year before signing permanently ahead of the last campaign.
The youngster showcased glimpses of his qualities last term and has enjoyed a promising start to this season, scoring a goal and registering one assist in seven La Liga appearances.
He helped his side beat Barcelona last weekend, and Sevilla are currently only two points behind fourth-placed Real Betis in the Spanish top flight.
Agoume is a talented player and possesses high potential. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition should Arsenal purchase him next year.
However, having already got Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Zubimendi, Norgaard, and Martin Odegaard, Arsenal don’t need to spend more to add further depth to the midfield department.
