Arsenal hold talks to sign Real Madrid star Arda Guler
Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After moving to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu from Turkish giants Fenerbahce a couple of years ago, the 20-year-old initially struggled with fitness problems and made only four La Liga starts in his debut campaign.
The youngster was used as a rotational option by former manager Carlo Ancelotti last term; however, things have changed since the arrival of Xabi Alonso as the new boss.
Guler has made 10 appearances across all competitions thus far this season, scoring three goals and registering four assists. He even made three goal contributions in six matches in the Club World Cup this summer.
Now, Fichajes state that after monitoring the midfielder’s performances closely in recent times, Arsenal have been impressed by him and even held talks to buy him. Apart from the Gunners, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the Turkish international.
However, Real Madrid have no intention of letting him leave and have slapped a whopping £130m price tag on his head, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
Guler to Arsenal
The Gunners can’t afford to seal the deal by matching the Spanish giants’ valuation, and it is highly unlikely that the former Fenerbahce star will leave the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu next year.
Jude Bellingham has been the first choice No.10 of Real Madrid over the last couple of years, and amid his injury absence, Guler got the chance to start during the first few weeks of this season.
However, the Englishman has recovered, and it remains to be seen whether Alonso can manage to find a place for both Guler and Bellingham in his starting XI. If Guler drops down to the bench, he might want to leave next year, which would give Arsenal a chance to buy him.
Nevertheless, Arsenal currently have Eberechi Eze, Martin Odegaard, and Ethan Nwaneri as options for the creative midfield position. Although the Norwegian has struggled with injury problems this season, Mikel Arteta has enough firepower in the CAM position and doesn’t need to spend big to add further depth to this area.
