Arsenal to reignite interest in signing Antoine Semenyo
Arsenal are reportedly planning to reignite interest in signing AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, as per TEAMtalk.
The Gunners have revamped the attacking department by signing Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze this summer. Eze is a creative midfielder by trait, but is also comfortable on the left flank.
However, it was reported in the summer window that the North London club were keen on signing a specialist left-winger as well. Rodrygo Goes, Rafael Leao, and Anthony Gordon were linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
TEAMtalk report that Arsenal were also interested in Semenyo and monitored him closely. However, the Cherries made it clear that they had no intention of letting him leave; eventually, they managed to tie him down to a fresh contract until 2030.
Despite missing out on him this summer, Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t given up on their hopes of signing the Ghanaian international and are preparing to reignite interest next year. Bournemouth don’t want to part ways with him in January and are desperate to keep hold of him beyond that.
They slapped a £70m price tag on Semenyo’s head this summer to put off suitors and are expected to ask a similar fee if they are forced to cash-in next summer.
Semenyo to Arsenal
The report claim that Arsenal aren’t the only club on the 25-year-old’s trail as Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool were also contemplating making a move this summer and are likely to revive their interest next year.
Semenyo is comfortable with both feet and is efficient in playing on either flank. Having displayed impressive performances in recent times, he has established himself as a talismanic figure for Andoni Iraola’s side.
The forward has had a stellar start to this season, scoring thrice and registering two assists in five Premier League appearances. Moreover, he has helped his side place themselves in the top four, accumulating the same number of points as Arsenal.
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have been inconsistent in recent years, so upgrading the left flank would be the right decision. Semenyo has proven his worth in the English top flight and would be a great coup for the North London club should they eventually manage to secure his services.
