Arsenal show interest in Ajax talent Jorthy Mokio

Arsenal are being linked with Ajax teenager Jorthy Mokio, according to reports from CaughtOffside.

The 17-year-old defender has been attracting attention with his quick rise in the Netherlands.

Mokio moved to Ajax from Belgian side Gent in the summer of 2024.

Within a short time, he has managed to break into the senior squad, which underlines his talent.

His first taste of senior football came during Europa League qualifiers, a major step for someone so young.

The Belgian is naturally a defensive midfielder, but he has also shown quality as a central defender.

He is left-footed, calm under pressure, and comfortable building play from the back. Mokio can also slot into a back-three formation when needed.

Arsenal have a strong scouting record for young players around the world.

They also signed Jurrien Timber from Ajax, and could use that good relationship to explore another deal.

Competition from top European clubs

The Gunners are now eyeing another raid on Ajax for Mokio but they could face stiff competition for his signature.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid are all monitoring the teenager closely, as per the report.

His potential has already seen him rewarded with a senior call-up to the Belgian national team, despite his young age.

Ajax, however, are not in a hurry to sell. His contract runs until 2027, giving the Dutch club plenty of control over his future.

Reports suggest it may take an offer worth up to £26 million for Ajax to consider a sale.

Such a price would highlight both his present quality and his long-term potential.

Sources close to the player have confirmed that several Premier League and La Liga clubs are showing serious interest.

However, they stress that the most important factor will be finding a project that suits his development.

Regular game time at this stage is seen as key to shaping his career.

Mokio’s rise at just 17 shows why many see him as one of Europe’s most promising young players.
