Arsenal keen on signing Nottingham Forest star Murillo

By on September 13, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Nottingham Forest star Murillo as a potential long-term replacement for Gabriel Magalhaes, as per a recent report.

Since moving to the Emirates Stadium from LOSC Lille back in 2020, the Brazilian has established himself as an undisputed starter in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.

However, the 27-year-old initially struggled to showcase consistency, making a few high-profile errors. He has become almost a flawless defender since William Saliba became his centre-back partner.

Now, as per a recent report (via TEAMtalk), Arsenal are keen on signing a new left-footed centre-back as a potential long-term replacement for Gabriel and have identified Murillo as a serious option.

The 23-year-old still has four years left in his current contract, so Forest aren’t in any rush to cash-in on him. However, they are ready to let him leave should they receive an offer of at least £60m.

Arsenal have signed Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié in the last two transfer windows to bolster the left side of the defence. Although Calafiori has struggled with fitness problems since joining from Bologna last summer, he has enjoyed a bright start to this season.

On the other hand, Hincapié has joined Arsenal on a loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen on deadline day this summer, and the North London club have an obligation to buy him next summer.

Both Calafiori and Hincapié are centre-backs by trait, and are comfortable in the left-back position. Moreover, Myles Lewis-Skelly is an option to deploy in the left-back role.

With Gabriel still just 27, Arsenal don’t need a new defender to replace him just yet. Therefore, although Murillo is a highly talented player and has proven his worth in the Premier League in recent times, Arsenal don’t have to spend big to sign him next year.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him away from City Ground next year.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will face off against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday, and Mikel Arteta will have an opportunity to watch him closely before making any potential swoop.
