Arsenal ‘leading the race’ to sign Stuttgart’s Stiller
Arsenal are reportedly ‘leading the race’ to sign Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller, as per the Express.
Following the departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho as free agents at the end of last season, the Gunners have decided to revamp their midfield department by signing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.
The former Real Sociedad star has enjoyed a solid start to his life in the Premier League; however, Norgaard hasn’t made a single appearance yet due to injury problems.
Moreover, the North London club also have Mikel Merino and Declan Rice as options for the engine room. However, Mikel Arteta appears to be planning to add further depth to this position.
As per a recent report (via the Express), Manchester United and Liverpool were linked with a move for Stiller this summer. But the Reds decided not to make a move for him. United, on the other hand, made a last-gasp attempt to sign him; however, the player rejected the opportunity to move to Old Trafford.
Now, Arsenal are ‘leading the race’ ahead of Man Utd and Liverpool to sign Stiller, and the player might be open to moving to the Emirates Stadium to be a part of Arteta’s project.
The 24-year-old still has three years left in his current contract, and Stuttgart have no intention of letting him leave for anything less than £52m.
Stiller to Arsenal
The report say that apart from the Premier League clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in the German as well, having been impressed by his recent eye-catching performances.
On the other hand, Bayern Munich are also in this race. Stiller ranked through the Bavarian club’s youth system before leaving to find regular game time and has now flourished in his career at MHP Arena.
Stiller is a technically gifted left-footed deep-lying player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in Arteta’s system. Having showcased his qualities in the Bundesliga, he has secured his place in the German national team.
Therefore, he could be a shrewd acquisition for the Gunners should they purchase him. However, Arsenal are currently well-resourced in the engine room, so they don’t have to spend big to sign another midfielder next year unless anyone leaves.
