Arsenal v Dortmund Preview, Injury News, Preferred XI & Prediction
It’s the big one tonight as we take on Borussia Dortmund in what could be a crucial game in Group F of the Champions League.
We currently top the group on goal difference from Dortmund and Napoli but with the Italians likely to beat Marseille at home in tonight’s other fixture, we really need to get something from this game.
A loss would leave us in a dangerous position heading in to the final two games and we could end up needing a win away in Italy, which wouldn’t be ideal.
It’s going to be a huge task to win against a Dortmund side that is no doubt one of the best teams in Europe right now. Their home record in the league this season is impressive, winning all six games, conceding just 4 goals and scoring 21.
Bbut we’ve faced this kind of game before. Everyone wrote us off against Bayern Munich last year and they had an even more ominous home record, so let’s still believe we can pick something up tonight.
Team News
Jack Wilshere has been ruled out with an ankle injury that he picked up in training last week. He missed the Liverpool win on Saturday with the problem and is now a doubt to face Man Utd on Sunday as well.
Mathieu Flamini could be back to face the champions but won’t feature tonight, while Kieran Gibbs has been passed fit despite being forced off with a calf problem at the weekend.
Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remain out but Serge Gnabry is back in contention. I’d like to see the youngster start on the right as he’d give us some much needed pace. We’re going to be under a lot of pressure tonight so an out-ball like Gnabry may pin the hosts back a little.
However, Tomas Rosicky is likely to start, with Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla making up the trio behind Giroud.
Preferred XI
Prediction
I’d love three points but as long as we don’t lose the game I’ll be happy. I can see the boys holding their own and earning a decent point. Dortmund 1-1 Arsenal.
