Arsenal to make surprise swoop to sign Denzel Dumfries
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a surprise swoop to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Since moving to Giuseppe Meazza Stadium from PSV Eindhoven back in 2021, the 29-year-old has enjoyed a successful time in Italy, winning a Scudetto title and a few domestic cup competitions.
Moreover, the Netherlands international helped his side reach the Champions League final twice; unfortunately, they ended up on the losing side on both occasions. Dumfries showcased his productivity last term, scoring 11 goals and registering five assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.
Now, Fichajes state that having proven his worth in Serie A, Dumfries is prepared to leave to take a new challenge in his career, and his ‘dream’ is to move to the Premier League.
Arsenal are interested in him and could make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer. However, Manchester United and Chelsea are in this race as well, so he isn’t short of potential suitors.
Although the defender still has three years left in his current contract, Inter won’t stop the player from leaving and are prepared to accept an offer of at least £22m.
Dumfries to Arsenal
Dumfries has been featuring as an RWB for Inter but is also comfortable in the right-back position and plays in this position for the Netherlands national team. He has been a key player for his country over the years, scoring a goal and registering an assist against Poland and Lithuania in this international break.
Arsenal are currently well-resourced in the right-back position as they already have Jurrien Timber and Ben White. However, the Englishman has struggled with fitness problems in recent times.
Therefore, perhaps Arsenal are planning to add further depth to the right side of the backline. Dumfries, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong, and good in the air; therefore, he possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure the defender’s services in winter or at the end of this term.
