Arsenal interested in signing Nottingham Forest’s Murillo
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Murillo, as per Caught Offside.
Since moving to the City Ground from Brazilian side Corinthians a couple of years ago, the 23-year-old has established himself as an integral part of the Reds’ starting XI.
In his debut campaign, he helped Forest survive relegation before guiding them to qualify for European football last term. The Brazilian has even started the new campaign brightly this term.
After displaying impressive performances in the Premier League last campaign, he was tentatively linked with a move away from the City Ground earlier this year. However, no club eventually made a formal move to buy him in the recently concluded transfer window.
Now, Caught Offside state that despite already purchasing Piero Hincapié, Arsenal are looking to sign a new left-sided centre-back to support Gabriel Magalhaes.
Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of Murillo because of his presence of mind and his ability to play threading passes between the lines from deep. So, Arsenal could make a concrete approach to secure his service in January or next summer.
Murillo to Arsenal
Murillo still has four years left in his current contract, so Nottingham Forest are in no rush to sell him. But they could change their stance should they receive an offer of up to £69m.
Arsenal aren’t the only club in this race as Barcelona are keen on signing him as a potential replacement for Inigo Martínez, who has left to join Al-Nassr.
But the Blaugrana have found themselves in financial difficulties in recent years, so they might struggle to seal the deal by matching Nuno Espirito Santo’s side’s valuation.
Murillo isn’t the tallest of centre-backs but is good in the air. He is strong, quick, and has a bullet shot in his armoury. Despite still being very young, the Forest star has showcased his qualities in the Premier League, and isn’t a finished article yet.
He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service in January or next summer.
