Arsenal interested in signing Brentford star Nathan Collins
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Brentford star Nathan Collins, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.
The Bees enjoyed a promising campaign last term, and following that, Tottenham decided to sign Thomas Frank as their manager to replace Ange Postecoglou.
Manchester United, on the other hand, have bought Bryan Mbeumo, while Newcastle United are keen on purchasing Yoane Wissa.
These three figures were crucial in Brentford’s success last campaign. Collins’ name didn’t come on the headline too often, but he has been an integral part of their starting XI since joining from Burnley a few years ago.
Now, on TBR Football, Bailey says that the 24-year-old’s eye-catching displays haven’t gone unnoticed as he has been attracting ‘major interest’ ahead of the September 1st transfer deadline.
Arsenal are a ‘major admirer’ of the Irishman and could make a concrete approach to secure his service. However, the Gunners aren’t the only club contemplating making a move for him, as Spurs and Liverpool are also keen on signing him.
Collins to Arsenal
Bailey said:
“There is major interest in Collins, he has improved every season he has been in the Premier League, and I am told that the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are all major admirers. Collins has just been handed the captain’s armband at Brentford, but I am told his situation is one to keep an eye on in the final week.”
Collins is valued at around £24m by Transfermarkt and still has four years left in his current contract. Following Frank and Mbeumo’s departure, the Bees have become a significantly weaker team than last term.
Moreover, Wissa is trying to force a move to Newcastle by striking. So, it is highly unlikely that Brentford will sanction Collins’ move at this stage of the transfer window.
Arsenal have reinforced the backline by signing Cristhian Mosquera this summer, but have been working to sell Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko. Therefore, Mikel Arteta is willing to add a new defender.
Collins, standing at 6ft 4in tall, is strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, efficient in defensive contributions, and also possesses a threat from set-pieces in the opposition penalty area.
He is a Premier League-proven player and is yet to reach his prime. Therefore, Collins could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service.
