Arsenal plan to make a move to sign Ademola Lookman
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners have reinforced the frontline by purchasing Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze this summer. However, Mikel Arteta’s side have already faced several injury problems.
Gabriel Jesus has been out with a knee problem, while Kai Havertz has recently sustained a fresh injury after remaining sidelined for nearly the whole second half of last season due to a hamstring problem.
Moreover, Bukayo Saka has picked up a hamstring injury and may remain sidelined for a few weeks. Therefore, it appears Arteta is looking to add further depth to the attacking department before the September 1st transfer deadline.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are interested in Lookman and are planning to make a move to secure his service late in this transfer window.
The forward is keen on leaving Atalanta to take the next step in his career and has handed in a transfer request. He didn’t feature in La Dea’s opening Serie A encounter against Pisa and has been training separately away from the first team squad.
Inter Milan were previously interested in him and even launched a formal proposal. However, their offer didn’t match Atalanta’s £45m valuation, and they have decided to cool their interest in him.
Lookman to Arsenal
Now, apart from Arsenal, Chelsea are also interested in him to reinforce the frontline. So, the Nigerian isn’t short of potential suitors at the moment.
Lookman has flourished in his career in a second striker role under Gian Piero Gasperini at Gewiss Stadium. However, he is also comfortable on the left flank.
The 27-year-old is a similar type of player to Eze and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. He has showcased his qualities for Atalanta in recent years, making 26 goal contributions in all competitions last term.
He even guided them to win the Europa League trophy a couple of seasons ago, and this was their first major trophy win for more than six decades.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service in this transfer window to strengthen the attacking department further.
