Arsenal make ‘approach’ to sign Girona’s Arnau Martínez

By on August 27, 2025

Arsenal have reportedly made an ‘approach’ to sign Girona defender Arnau Martínez, as per transfer journalist Santi Aouna.

The Gunners have already reinforced the defensive department by signing Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia. However, they have been in talks to sell Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior before the transfer deadline.

Furthermore, Ben White has struggled with fitness problems in recent times; therefore, it appears the North London club are planning to buy a new defender this summer.

On X, Aouna reports that Arsenal are interested in Martínez and have already presented a formal proposal worth around £8.6m[€10m] to secure his service. The structure of the bid is £7m[€8m] in guaranteed fee plus £1.6m[€2m] in bonuses, with his existing deal set to run until 2027.

The 22-year-old is a right-back by trait but is also comfortable in the centre-back position. The Spaniard joined Girona’s youth team back in 2018 before making his first team debut a couple of years later.

Martínez helped his side qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four in La Liga a couple of years ago. The youngster is technically sound, can play out from the back, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.

Martínez to Arsenal

Mikel Arteta likes having versatile players in the fullback position, with White, Jurrien Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori all comfortable in the fullback position as well as the centre-back role.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move to sign Piero Hincapié, and now Martínez is on their radar as well. It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to secure his service to reinforce the defensive department.

Arsenal have been very busy this summer and have signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze by spending around £270m.

The Gunners have even enjoyed a bright start to this season, winning the first two Premier League games without conceding a goal. They are even at the summit of the table on goal difference.

Now, they will face off against title rival Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend before the international break.
