Wilshere Ruled Out After ‘Rolling’ Ankle In Training
Jack Wilshere has been ruled out of Wednesday’s crucial Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund after picking up a fresh ankle injury in training late last week, according to reports today.
The midfielder wasn’t in the squad to face Liverpool on Saturday with many suggesting he was given the weekend off as a precaution to prevent his troublesome right ankle from flaring up.
However, the Mirror are reporting today that Wilshere in fact ‘rolled’ his LEFT ankle in training last Thursday and could now be facing a spell on the sidelines.
While Arsene Wenger is yet to publicly rule Wilshere out, the newspaper suggests he will miss Wednesday’s game with Dortmund and is a major doubt to face Manchester United on Sunday, while they also cast doubt over whether the 21-year-old will be able to feature in England’s friendlies with Chile and Germany later this month.
It’s another blow to not only Arsenal but for Jack as well. His injury problems have plagued his career so far and I just hope this isn’t going to be another season of disruption for him.
I suppose the good news is that the damage has been done to the other ankle and not the right ankle that kept him out for over 17 months, so hopefully it’s only a short-term thing.
Left-back Kieran Gibbs is also understood to be a major doubt to face Dortmund after limping out of Saturday’s win with a calf problem.
