Arsenal remain ‘keen’ on signing Crystal Palace’s Eze
Arsenal reportedly remain ‘keen’ on signing Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze, as per Football London.
The Gunners have already sealed six new signings by splashing around £200m this summer, but Mikel Arteta wants another wide forward before the end of this transfer window.
Now, Football London report that the Spanish boss ideally wants to finish any potential incoming businesses before the Premier League’s opening encounter against Manchester United.
The Gunners are ‘keen’ on signing Eze as Arteta is a ‘big fan’ of him; however, having already spent big money, Andrea Berta is currently focusing on balancing the books by selling fringe players.
Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Reiss Nelson, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Karl Hein have all been linked with a move away from the club. So, Arsenal have allowed Tottenham Hotspur to make a move for the Crystal Palace star as they are also keen on purchasing him.
Eze has a £68m release clause in his current contract, and the clause expires before the start of the 2025/26 season, with his existing deal set to run until 2027.
Eze to Arsenal
Arsenal will have to register Eze as a new signing before midday today to make him eligible to feature versus United, and it is highly unlikely that they would be able to do that.
Eze has showcased his qualities in the Premier League in recent years. He is capable of playing in the CAM role and out wide, but having already got Ethan Nwaneri and Martin Odegaard, Arsenal don’t have to buy a new creative midfielder.
So, perhaps, Arsenal see the 27-year-old as a left winger option. Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are the current options for this position, but the Brazilian has been displaying inconsistent performances in recent years.
On the other hand, Trossard’s contract will expire next summer, and he has turned 30. He has even been linked with a move away from the club.
Although Arsenal remain keen on signing Eze, it appears Tottenham have stolen a march in this race by accelerating their efforts to seal the deal. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see who eventually manage to secure Eze’s service before the end of this transfer window.
