Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has said that Viktor Gyokeres is the ‘perfect match’ for his former club to win the Premier League title.

When Mikel Arteta became the Gunners’ new manager back in 2019, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette were the main centre-forward options.

However, the Spanish boss decided to part ways with the duo, and Gabriel Jesus was purchased from Manchester City to reinforce the frontline. Kai Havertz also joined a couple of years ago to add depth in the No.9 position.

But the Brazilian has been struggling with fitness problems in recent years, while Havertz was also out for several months due to a hamstring issue last season.

Arsenal finished second in the last three consecutive Premier League campaigns, and it was widely reported that they needed a new prolific striker to become the English champions.

So, the north London club’s hierarchy have decided to sign Gyokeres by spending around £64m this summer. Now, during a recent interview (via Metro), Henry claims that the Swede has ‘killer’ instincts inside the box and is the ‘perfect match’ for Arsenal to win the title as they create a lot of chances.

Henry’s verdict on Gyokeres

However, the ex-forward says that Gyokeres might take time to settle in his new surroundings, so the fans should be patient with him. But the fans aren’t patient at all, and that is annoying.

Henry said:

“What I would say about Gyokeres is that You have a guy that’s a killer in the box – numbers don’t lie – and you have a team that create a lot of chances, so it should be the perfect match, but you have to also understand that sometimes it doesn’t click straight away.

“What you want is people to be patient with him, and what is annoying right now is that people are not that patient anymore. They want the guy to perform straight away, score goals straight away and make us win straight away, which doesn’t happen often.”

After finishing second in the last three consecutive campaigns, time is running out for Arteta, and if he can’t win the Premier League or Champions League this season, he will have to face massive criticism.

Therefore, the patience of Arsenal fans is wearing thin, so the north London club have decided to go for an experienced striker like Gyokeres, although they were initially linked with a move for a young striker like Benjamin Sesko. So that he can deliver straight away.

Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see how the 2025/26 season unfolds for Arsenal.
