Arsenal still monitoring Xavi Simons transfer move
Arsenal are still following the situation of Xavi Simons despite the RB Leipzig attacker nearing a move to Chelsea, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The RB Leipzig midfielder remains on Arsenal’s radar as the club explore wide options in the transfer market.
Mikel Arteta’s side have already made several signings, including Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Nørgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyökeres.
Despite this, Arsenal are still keen to bring in another attacker who can operate from the left.
Simons, 22, fits that profile well. The Dutch international impressed for Leipzig last season and is capable of playing both as a winger and a central attacking midfielder.
Simons is a lively attacking midfielder with sharp footwork, quick movement, and strong playmaking instincts.
He is excellent at unlocking defences and creating space, both for himself and those around him.
His agility and balance help him glide through tight areas, and he is usually calm on the ball.
Though Arsenal have not submitted any official offer, the player is being monitored closely as a possible addition.
His versatility and attacking output have made him one of the more attractive targets available.
Chelsea and Bayern also interested in the Dutch midfielder
While Arsenal retain an interest in Simons, they need to act fast is they want to sign him as Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a deal.
According to Ben Jacobs, talks have progressed on the player’s side, with personal terms already being discussed with the Blues.
Enzo Maresca’s team are also preparing a formal offer to submit to Leipzig after initial verbal discussions. The Blues are pushing hard to complete the deal as soon as possible.
Transfermarkt currently values Simons at £61 million, a fee Chelsea seem willing to explore as negotiations continue.
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also keeping an eye on the player. However, there have been no clear movements from their end so far.
Simons had a strong 2024/25 campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in all competitions for RB Leipzig.
Arsenal view him as a potential alternative to Eberechi Eze, who is another name under serious consideration.
For now, the Gunners remain in the background, watching closely as developments unfold.
They are yet to make their move but remain interested in the Dutchman’s situation.
