Arsenal have suffered a blow in pursuit of Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes, as per Spanish outlet Cadena Ser.

Mikel Arteta has been in charge of the Gunners’ managerial position for more than half a decade, but he hasn’t been able to guide them to win the Premier League or Champions League yet.

The North London club was in a difficult state when the Spaniard was appointed back in 2019, but he managed to help them win the FA Cup the following year.

Arteta has made Arsenal a title challenger but has been struggling to take the next step, finishing second in the last three consecutive Premier League seasons.

The Gunners’ hierarchy have been very busy this summer to bolster the squad and hand the Spanish boss the necessary qualities to become the English champions next season.

Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, and Kepa Arrizabalaga have already joined, while Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera are set to follow suit.

Moreover, Arsenal also want a new left-sided forward and have been linked with Anthony Gordon, Rodrygo, and Eberechi Eze.

Now, Cadena Ser claim that Arsenal’s pursuit of Rodrygo has become ‘very complicated’ following Gyokeres and Madueke’s arrival. So, although there is still a chance that he might move to the Emirates Stadium, the possibility of that happening has reduced.

After signing Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras, and Franco Mastantuano this summer, Real Madrid are set to focus on selling to balance the books, and Rodrygo is expected to leave after losing his importance in the starting line-up.

Los Blancos believe Rodrygo is among the top 10 best forwards in the world, so they don’t want to let him leave cheaply and want around £78m with his existing deal set to run until 2028.

If Arsenal eventually can’t afford to buy him, Liverpool might look to go for him, and the player’s representatives have offered the forward to several Premier League clubs.

Rodrygo’s versatility to play anywhere across the frontline would be a useful element for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it remains to be seen who Arteta’s side will eventually buy to bolster the left flank.
