Report: Arsenal Eyeing Bid For Flamini Alternative
Arsenal are ready to table a £7m bid for West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu, according to reports today.
The Mirror claims that Arsene Wenger is wanting another ‘proper’ defensive midfielder to provide competition for Mathieu Flamini.
The boss sent scouts to watch Mulumbu in action last week against Stoke City and apparently they were impressed with what they saw, sending a glowing report back to Wenger on the 26-year-old’s performance.
A bid is now being lined up with the newspaper suggesting we’ll test West Brom’s resolve with a £7m bid in January.
I’m a big fan of Mulumbu’s and think he’d be a good alternative to Flamini, but we may have trouble trying to persuade the Midlanders to sell the midfield enforcer. He’s a key member of their team and only signed a new contract in the summer, so West Brom will be under no pressure to sell.
I think this is going to be a big January for us, particularly if we’re still putting in a serious challenge for the title. We certainly need another striker and while we have a lot of depth in the centre of midfield, Flamini is the only real defensive midfielder we have, so it might be prudent to bring in another option.
Mulumbu would be a good fit as he’s got plenty of Premier League experience, but I’m not sure we’d be able to get him away from WBA in mid-season.
Do you rate Mulumbu? Would you have him at Arsenal?
