Arsenal make ‘significant’ progress to sign Rodrygo Goes
Arsenal have reportedly taken ‘significant’ strides to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per Football Transfers.
The Brazilian established himself as a key player for Los Blancos after joining from Santos back in 2019. He helped his side win multiple league titles and a couple of Champions League trophies. Moreover, he won a few other major cup competitions at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu over the years.
However, his future at Los Blancos has been uncertain in recent times as he lost his place in former manager Carlo Ancelotti’s starting eleven towards the end of last season.
Rodrygo started the first game of the Club World Cup under new boss Xabi Alonso, but Real Madrid looked lackluster, and his performance wasn’t up to the mark either. So, he remained an unused substitute in the following game, where Alonso’s side defeated Pachuca despite going a man down early in the game.
Therefore, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in this transfer window. Football Transfers report that Arsenal want a new wide forward and initially identified Nico Williams as a priority target.
However, following his desire to join Barcelona, Mikel Arteta’s side have shifted focus to Rodrygo. Arsenal have taken ‘significant’ strides after holding positive discussions with Los Blancos over the transfer fee.
Rodrygo to Arsenal
Real Madrid won’t stop the forward if he wants to leave and want more than £85m, with the Gunners prepared to make the player one of the highest earners at the club to persuade him to join.
Arsenal’s current scout Paulo Xavier was previously at Real Madrid and played a significant role in bringing Rodrygo to the Bernabéu, as he has a close connection with the player’s family.
Xavier has already held talks with the player’s father and agent over this deal and could play a key role now to lure Rodrygo to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Although Rodrygo has found it difficult to play regularly at Real Madrid, he is still a top-class forward. His struggles aren’t due to his qualities; rather, they are caused by the fierce competition on Real Madrid’s frontline.. Therefore, if Arsenal eventually manage to persuade him to join, that would be a great coup.
