Arsenal hold talks to sign West Ham star Mohammed Kudus
Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus, as per The Sun.
After failing to win the Premier League title last term, the Gunners have reportedly identified three positions that need upgrading to close the gap with Liverpool.
Midfield is one of them, as Jorginho and Thomas Partey are set to leave for free at the end of this season. Martin Zubimendi is on the verge of joining, and Mikel Arteta’s side could go for another option. Moreover, they want a new striker with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres being suggested as primary targets.
Signing a new wide forward is on Arteta’s agenda as well, and Nico Williams of Athletic Club was suggested as his priority option. But, he is now more likely to join Barcelona, so after failing to persuade him to join, Arsenal have shifted focus to alternative options.
The Sun claim that Arsenal are interested in Kudus and have already held talks to secure his service. The player is open to leaving West Ham to take the next step in his career and has recently changed his agent to facilitate the move.
Kudus to Arsenal
The 24-year-old has a £85m release clause in his current contract, and the clause is valid from 1st July to 10th, while the clause increases to £125m for Saudi Arabian clubs. However, Arsenal wouldn’t want to spend that much, and ideally, they would be looking to negotiate the price down.
The report say that Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are also interested in him, while the Magpies are planning to make a swap deal bid to persuade the Hammers to let him leave for a lower fee.
On the other hand, Chelsea have also opened talks with Kudus, like Arsenal, to seal the deal, so purchasing the Ghanaian international won’t be easy for Arsenal.
Kudus enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Premier League after joining the East London club from Ajax Amsterdam a couple of years ago. But, he failed to replicate the same performance last term, making only nine goal contributions in all competitions.
