Arsenal battling with PL rivals to sign Brentford’s Wissa
Arsenal are reportedly battling with several Premier League rivals over a deal to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, as per TEAMtalk.
The Bees enjoyed a solid Premier League campaign last season, securing a comfortable mid-table finish. Key to their impressive performances were Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, and manager Thomas Frank, who all played pivotal roles.
Tottenham Hotspur have appointed the Dane as the new manager to replace Ange Postecoglou following his eye-catching displays at Gtech Community Stadium over the last few years.
Mbeumo has also attracted a lot of attention this summer, but he has reportedly agreed to join Manchester United. The Red Devils have been in negotiations with the West London club to seal the deal.
The Gunners, Spurs, and Newcastle United were all interested in the Cameroonian. Mikel Arteta was eyeing him as a backup option to Bukayo Saka, but the player wanted a first-team role, so Arsenal couldn’t manage to persuade him to join.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Wissa has also been the subject of attention from several Premier League clubs, with the North London club showing a keen interest. They could even make a concrete approach to secure his service to bolster the frontline.
Wissa to Arsenal
Brentford don’t want to part ways with the African after already losing Frank, and Mbeumo is also looking all set to leave. So, they want to tie him down to a fresh term with his existing deal set to run until 2026, plus the Bees have an option to extend his deal for one more year.
If the West London club are eventually forced to cash-in amid growing interest, they want around £50m. The report say that apart from Arsenal, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, Fenerbahçe, and Galatasaray are also in this race.
Wissa is a centre-forward and enjoyed a productive campaign last term, scoring 19 goals and registering four assists in 35 Premier League appearances.
Arsenal want a new striker and have been linked with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres. However, both will cost a lot, while Wissa would be a more affordable alternative.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually make a concrete approach to secure Wissa’s service in this transfer window.
