Arsenal reportedly remain keen on signing Manchester United target and Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres, as per Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

After moving to Jose Alvalade Stadium from Coventry City a couple of years ago, the Swedish international enjoyed a productive debut campaign for the Lions.

Following that, he attracted a lot of attention last summer with the Gunners among those who registered their interest. However, the forward eventually opted to stay at the Portuguese capital.

Gyokeres took his game to a new level in the recently concluded campaign, scoring 54 goals and registering 13 assists in 52 appearances in all competitions. Now, he has been the topic of conversation of several clubs to bolster the centre-forward position once again.

Arsenal are said to be prioritising signing a new striker this summer and have been linked with the 27-year-old. But, they have started making moves to hire Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, therefore, it was uncertain as to whether they genuinely want Gyokeres.

But, O Jogo (via PressReader) claim that Arsenal are still interested in him and could make a concrete approach to secure his service this summer.

However, they aren’t the only club planning to hire him as Man Utd and Napoli are also lining up a swoop. But, nothing has been agreed yet with any clubs, so the race is still open.

The former Coventry star still has three years left in his current contract at Sporting, so they are in a strong position to demand a big fee to let him leave and have slapped a £59m price tag on his head.

Arsenal need a prolific striker to close the gap with Liverpool, and Gyokeres has been the most productive centre-forward in Europe in the last couple of seasons. He even scored a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League, league stage last term.

He is quick, strong, efficient in linking up the play, has the poacher instinct inside the box, and also works hard without possession. Therefore, Gyokeres possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League.

He could be a great coup for the North London club should they eventually manage to secure his service in this transfer window.
