Arsenal in talks with Leipzig over Benjamin Sesko move
Arsenal have opened serious talks with RB Leipzig over a move for striker Benjamin Sesko this summer. The update comes from Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Gunners are actively searching for a reliable centre forward after struggling to find a clinical hitman in recent years.
They have drawn up a shortlist which includes Viktor Gyökeres, Alexander Isak, and Sesko.
Mikel Arteta wants a striker who can lead the line and add cutting edge to Arsenal’s attack. Sesko fits the profile perfectly.
As per Plettenberg, Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta has been in contact with Leipzig. His Leipzig counterpart Marcel Schafer has also been involved in discussions.
Sesko has a release clause worth £67 million. It is still unclear whether Arsenal intend to trigger that clause when the transfer window opens.
Plettenberg tweeted:
Arsenal are now in concrete talks with RB Leipzig regarding Benjamin #Sesko!
Marcel Schäfer and Andrea Berta are in contact. While Arsenal are also monitoring other strikers such as Viktor Gyökeres, their pursuit of Sesko is serious. Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of the 21 y/o forward from RB Leipzig.
His release clause for the summer stands at €80 million. Deal on.
Sesko could be the missing piece for Arsenal
The 21-year-old Slovenia international has impressed with his performances in the Bundesliga. He is strong in the air and often wins aerial duels.
He also knows how to keep the ball and beat defenders with skill and control. His goals and all-round game have caught the eye across Europe having scored 21 goals and provided a further 6 assists in 45 games.
Arteta has struggled to get the best out of his forwards this season. The lack of goals has played a part in Arsenal’s failure to win silverware.
Sesko could offer a new dimension to their attack. His physical presence and finishing ability may be exactly what the Gunners need next season.
He is already showing signs of being a top-class striker and has the potential to shine in the Premier League.
Arsenal remain determined to improve their squad this summer. They want to add quality players who can raise the team’s overall level.
Signing Sesko would be a big statement and could give Arsenal a better chance of ending their long wait for a league title.
The club are working to get business done early and avoid the rush later in the window. Sesko remains one of their main targets for now.
