Arsenal battling with PL clubs to sign Anthony Gordon
Arsenal are reportedly battling with Premier League clubs over a deal to sign Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, as per Caught Offside.
After losing the Premier League title to Manchester City in the last two seasons, the Gunners have been trumped by Liverpool in this race this campaign.
Having endured a tough season this term, the Citizens are planning to splash big this summer to return to the top. On the other hand, despite winning the league, Liverpool have already started making moves in the market to bolster the squad and maintain their level.
They are planning to hire Milos Kerkez to reinforce the left-back position, and are close to a deal to purchase Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
Moreover, they have made a breakthrough in the race for Florian Wirtz as they have managed to persuade him to join. Now, Arne Slot’s side will have to agree on a transfer fee with Leverkusen to seal the deal.
Therefore, Arsenal will have to show the same level of ambition to bridge the gap with the Merseyside club. Mikel Arteta reportedly wants a new striker, midfielder, and wide forward.
Gordon to Arsenal
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal want Gordon to bolster the frontline and have been monitoring his development closely before making a potential swoop. Newcastle have found themselves in financial uncertainty due to PSR rule, so they may negotiate to let their star man leave and could demand up to £76m.
However, the North London club’s recruitment team are unsure whether they should spend this much money to sign the England international this summer. Moreover, the player isn’t keen on leaving and is happy to stay at St James’ Park.
Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in Gordon, as Chelsea and Liverpool are also plotting a swoop.
Gordon enjoyed a productive campaign last term, and following that, he was selected to play for England in the European Championship last summer. However, he hasn’t been able to replicate last season’s form this season, scoring nine goals and registering six assists in all competitions.
The forward is a Premier League proven player, and Arsenal need to seal ambitious deals like this to close the gap with Liverpool. So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arteta’s side eventually manage to hire him this summer.
