Arsenal ‘determined’ to beat Chelsea to sign Mosquera
Arsenal are reportedly ‘determined’ to beat Chelsea in the race to sign Valencia star Cristhian Mosquera, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Having risen through Los Ches’ youth system, the 20-year-old made his first team debut back in 2022 before establishing himself as a key player in recent campaigns.
Last season, the youngster helped Valencia finish in mid-table. However, the Spanish side were struggling in the first half of this campaign and were at risk of relegation.
But, Mosquera helped his side turn the situation around following the turn of the new year, and they are set to finish in mid-table once again. Having gone on a 10-game unbeaten run, Los Ches were even in the race for Europe, but after losing back-to-back games, they have now dropped off.
In 36 La Liga appearances, the Spaniard has scored a solitary goal and kept eight clean sheets this season. However, with his existing deal set to expire at the end of next season, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging ahead of the summer window.
Now, Fichajes state that after being impressed by Mosquera’s recent displays, Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him and are looking to move quickly to get the deal done before other clubs can enter.
Mosquera to Arsenal
However, Chelsea are also interested in him and the North London club are ‘determined’ to get the deal done by beating the city rivals in this race. Valencia are open to letting the defender go in a cut-price deal to avoid losing him for free next summer and want around £21m.
Mosquera, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong, and comfortable playing out from the back. He is a talented player and possesses high potential, but he isn’t ready to take the next step in his career yet.
Arsenal currently have one of the best defensive pairings in William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. Moreover, Jakub Kiwior has showcased that he is capable of providing cover for the Brazilian.
Jurrien Timber and Ben White can also provide cover for Saliba. Therefore, the Emirates club don’t need to invest more to reinforce the CB position this summer.
