Arsenal eye move to sign Sesko as an alternative to Gyokeres
Arsenal are reportedly lining up a swoop to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko as an alternative option to primary target Viktor Gyokeres, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
It has widely been reported that the Gunners are prioritising signing a new striker this summer. They were initially looking to purchase Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, but the Magpies don’t want to let him leave as the player still has three years left in his current contract.
Moreover, with Champions League qualification on the horizon, Newcastle are in a strong position to keep hold of their top talent.
After realising that it would be extremely difficult to purchase the Swedish international, the North London club have reportedly shifted their focus to Gyokeres. It has even been mentioned that Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta is a big fan of the Sporting star.
However, Gyokeres has attracted a lot of attention, having displayed impressive performances in recent times. Therefore, purchasing him won’t be straightforward for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal have identified Sesko as an alternative option if they fail to sign Gyokeres. The Slovenian international is set to leave Leipzig this summer following the German side’s failure to qualify for European football next season.
Sesko to Arsenal
The 21-year-old still has four years left in his current contract and is valued at around £55m by Transfermarkt. Therefore, Leipzig are likely to demand a huge fee to sell their star man.
Although Leipzig have struggled this season, Sesko has showcased his goal-scoring prowess, netting 21 times and registering six assists in 45 appearances in all competitions.
The North London club hold a long-term interest in the Slovenian as they were heavily linked with a move for him last summer. However, the player eventually opted to stay at Red Bull Arena by signing a fresh term.
The forward is 6ft 5in tall and is blisteringly quick. He has excellent ball striking power, has a great leap, and is efficient in finishing off his chances.
The 21-year-old is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a world-class striker in the future, so he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.
